🧩 The Missing Twenty Percent
This week we've been conducting a skills audit.
On Monday we discovered something important:
You already have valuable skills.
On Wednesday we learned that your experience has market value.
Today I want to talk about the thing that keeps most people stuck.
Not their lack of talent.
Not their lack of experience.
Not even their lack of time.
It's their inability to accurately judge the gap between where they are and where they think they need to be.
🧩 The Missing Twenty Percent
Years ago I heard someone say:
Most people are only twenty percent away from where they want to be, but they spend all their time obsessing over the missing twenty and ignoring the eighty they already possess.
That idea has stayed with me.
Because I see it everywhere.
Someone has spent fifteen years managing projects, solving problems, coordinating teams, and handling difficult customers.
But because they've never sold anything, they conclude:
"I'm not ready."
Someone else has spent ten years teaching, presenting, coaching, and helping people learn.
But because they don't understand marketing, they conclude:
"I don't have enough skills."
Meanwhile another person has built a successful side business doing exactly the same thing after learning one missing skill.
Not ten.
One.
And I think that's one of the biggest lies in entrepreneurship.
We convince ourselves we're missing everything.
Usually we're missing one thing.

🎒 The Backpack You Forgot You Were Carrying
Imagine getting ready to hike across the mountains.
You have hiking boots.
You have food.
You have water.
You have a map.
You have warm clothes.
You have a flashlight.
You have a tent.
But you don't have trekking poles.
And because you don't have trekking poles, your brain decides:
"I'm not prepared."
That's exactly what many future entrepreneurs do.
You already have:
communication skills
problem-solving ability
industry knowledge
organizational skills
relationships
experience
judgment
But because you don't know sales, or marketing, or AI prompts, you convince yourself you're standing at the beginning.
You aren't.
You're somewhere around mile twenty.
You just keep staring at mile twenty-one.
🔍 The Four Gaps
Over the years I've noticed that most aspiring entrepreneurs fall into one of four categories.
The first is the skill gap.
This is the simplest one.
You genuinely don't know how to do something.
Perhaps you've never written a proposal.
Perhaps you've never had a sales conversation.
Perhaps you've never used AI tools.
These problems are solvable.
Skills can be learned.
The second is the knowledge gap.
You don't know what comes next.
You don't know which niche to pursue.
You don't know what offer to create.
You don't know who to serve.
This isn't a capability problem.
It's a clarity problem.
The third is the confidence gap.
You know enough.
You simply don't believe you know enough.
This is where people ask:
"Who would pay me?"
"What if I fail?"
"What if somebody knows more than me?"
The solution here isn't another course.
It's evidence.
Evidence comes from action.
The final gap is the action gap.
This one is uncomfortable.
Because sometimes we know exactly what to do.
We've read the books.
We've watched the videos.
We've taken the courses.
And we're still waiting.
Another certification won't solve this one.
Only movement does.
💡 Diagnose Before You Prescribe
One of the most expensive mistakes people make is solving the wrong problem.
Someone who needs confidence buys another course.
Someone who needs clarity learns another skill.
Someone who needs action spends another year researching.
Before you buy anything else, ask:
What gap am I actually trying to close?
Because the answer may be much smaller than you think.
⚙️ Your Skill Gap Exercise
Take out a notebook.
On the left side write:
What I Already Have
List everything:
experience
relationships
industry knowledge
skills
strengths
tools
AI capabilities
Then write:
What I Actually Need
Be painfully specific.
Not:
"I need to learn business."
Instead:
"I need to learn how to run a discovery call."
Not:
"I need confidence."
Instead:
"I need to talk to three people."
Smaller problems create faster solutions.

🧙♂️Whiskered Wisdom
The whiskers don't lie.
Most people don't need to reinvent themselves.
They need to build a bridge.
A bridge between what they already know and what they want to become.
And bridges are much easier to build than entirely new lives.
🎯 Today's Move
Complete these three sentences:
I already know how to __________.
I still need to learn how to __________.
The next action I can take is __________.
Keep it simple.
Keep it specific.
Keep it honest.
Because your escape plan doesn't begin when you know everything.
It begins when you identify the one thing standing between where you are and where you want to go.
Week 3 Wrap-Up
This week we learned:
✅ You already have valuable skills.
✅ Your experience creates value.
✅ Your gaps may be smaller than they appear.
You are not starting from zero.
You are starting from experience.
And next week, we begin turning that experience into validation of offers, opportunities, and income.
REMEMBER: Most people overestimate what they need to learn and underestimate what they already know.
🧙♂️Ace’s Adage
